Our Commitment to Child Privacy
A new policy regarding the public sharing of children's images - effective September 1, 2026.
At Double Vision Photography & Film, we believe photographs of children deserve an extra level of care and consideration.
As photographers and, more importantly, as mothers ourselves, we've spent considerable time thinking about how advances in technology - particularly AI image generation have changed the risks associated with publicly sharing identifiable photographs of children.
An innocent photograph of a real child can be downloaded, copied, altered, or potentially used as source material for something that child's parents never intended or consented to.
Recent developments in AI technology have made this concern even more significant to us. A recent ruling from the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals involving AI-generated images of fictional children further highlighted the rapidly changing landscape surrounding these technologies.
We are not lawyers, and this policy is not intended to interpret or debate that ruling. Rather, it prompted us to take a closer look at what we, as photographers and mothers, are comfortable making publicly accessible.
Our NEW Policy!
Effective September 1, 2026, Double Vision Photography & Film will no longer publicly post identifiable faces of children from client sessions on our business social media pages or other public-facing platforms.
This applies regardless of whether a parent or guardian has signed a model or social media release.
A signed release gives us permission to use an image. It does not obligate us to exercise that permission.
As mothers, we have decided that the safety and privacy of the children entrusted to us is more important than the marketing benefit of displaying their faces.
What We Will Still Share
This does not mean we are going to stop sharing the beautiful moments we photograph.
You may still see:
- Children photographed from behind
- Images from angles where the child's face isn't identifiable
- Candid moments
- Silhouettes
- Hands, feet and other details
- Newborn details and close-ups
- Family interactions where children aren't identifiable
- Images where a child's face has been intentionally obscured, when the family is comfortable with us sharing the photograph
Our goal is to make non-identifying images the norm, rather than relying on face coverings as our primary method. You will clearly be able to see our work and consistency of our style and quality in images of adults, 18+ seniors, and more!
What about photos you share?
Parents and guardians are absolutely free to share their family's photographs however they choose.
We understand that a parent's personal social media account may be private and limited to approved friends and family. Every family has the right to make that decision for their own children.
Our business pages are different.
Double Vision's social media accounts are public-facing platforms. Images posted there may be viewed, downloaded, shared or accessed by people who do not follow us, do not know your family, and have never met your children.
We simply don't feel comfortable making that decision on behalf of someone else's child.
Client Galleries
Beginning with this policy, client galleries containing images of children will be password protected.
Gallery passwords will only be provided to the involved clients/parties of the session, who may then choose who they wish to share that password with.
This allows our clients to have much greater control over who has access to their full gallery.
Please note that all images taken within a session, and sent to the client galleries will be edited as normal, and all clients will receive the original images as they were taken.
What about images we have already shared?
This policy takes effect September 1, 2026.
We recognize that Double Vision has publicly shared identifiable images of children in the past, often with the permission of their parents or guardians. We are not suggesting that those families made the wrong choice or that we acted improperly by honoring the permissions we were given.
Technology has changed. Our understanding of the risks has changed. And our policy is changing with it.
We will be reviewing our existing public-facing portfolio and social media content and making decisions about older images as appropriate.
